The Possible Reason Why Ex- Governor Ajimobi’s Muslim Funeral Rites Was Delayed.

Written by on 29 June 2020

Many People are wondering why former Governor of Oyo state, Abiola Ajimobi who is a Muslim had been delayed buried many days after his death. Let me give you the hint; During his tenure as the Governor of Oyo state, Abiola Ajimobi converted so many of the state’s properties into his personal use without paying a dime for any of them. Some of these properties have since been seized by the Oyo state government and converted back to the state’s use. So when it was time to bury him, his wife, Florence Ajimobi strategically chose one of the choice properties that her late husband stole from Oyo state, a gigantic edifice very close to the Government house in Ibadan. But the said property had been under lock and key by the state government even prior to his death so it was very surprising that she made attempts to stylishly supplant the property once again. She knows too well that if she triumphs in burying her husband there, the property becomes automatically theirs.
But the state Governor Seyi Makinde is not having it, Seyi has refused the pressure from her. Firstly she got the Vice President to interfere in the matter. Osibanjo is said to have called the Governor and pleaded on her behalf but the governor maintained that he has looked away on so many occasions and obliged the Ajimobi’s countless times in allowing them keep their various loots. That he wouldn’t stand by and watch this lady play a fast one on the state by trying to bury her husband there. When Florence Ajimobi saw that the former Redeem pastor was unable to make it happen, she reached out again to former President Obasanjo to intervene on her behalf and Obasanjo promised to speak with Governor Seyi Makinde but as at this afternoon Obasanjo has not gotten back to her. Knowing Obasanjo very well, he might not have even called Seyi Makinde because he knows the ex Oyo First Lady is just playing smart and greedy. Since they don’t want to bury him in his Oluyole home.
Mrs F. Ajimobi who sits on a multi billion naira fortune that her husband acquired as a two time governor of Oyo state. Whether in pounds sterling, dollars or naira, money is not in any way her problem. She has just too much money at her disposal; in a state her husband left in a chaos. He had university students stay at home for two years. And he refused to pay teachers and lecturers. The story is terrible. But even with all these, his widow is more interested in using her late husband’s burial to steal more from the state this single action perfectly mirrors the mindset of the late politician and his wife. These people believe that looting our financial destinies was actually their full fledged rights.
Noble People Team gathered that the former governor was buried around 10:20am after his body arrived from Lagos on Sunday 28/06/2020 .
His funeral was only attended by family members with some close friends so as to observe social distance ordered by NCDC
Among the cleric at the burial were Alhaji Kunle Sanni, Sheikh Muyideen Bello, Chief Imam of Ibadan land, Sheikh Abubakri AbdulGaniyu Agbotomokere among others.
Also present are APC gubernatorial candidate, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, Hon Shina Peller, Honourable Saheed Akinade-Fijabi, Representative of Ekiti State governor, Senator Teslim Folarin, Minister for Youth and Sports, Mr Sunday Dare and members of 9th National Assembly.
The reason why Ajimobi was dislike by people
The former governor who quit his job in the oil sector for politics, won during the senatorial elections of 2003 in Ibadan, ran for governorship in 2007 but was denied victory. He however tried again in 2011 and he was victorious.
Ajimobi might have been able to pull off some notable achievements during his political career, many residents of Oyo State started to dislike him at a point during his governance.
Ajimobi was described as a man of Ego, loquacious in fact. He was described as a selfish politician by the people of Ibadan and saw his rule as next to none but God.
Many believed that Ajimobi’s decisions and moves weakened the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State. The dislike which the people of Oyo started having for him, gave away the state to the now incumbent People’s democratic party.
Below are few details incidents which really turned the hearts of Oyo people against Ajimobi during his governorship.
Crisis with Olubadan.
Many years ago, the Olubadan had some problems with his High Chiefs within the council over some issues but Ajimobi intervened into the issue, not to resolve it but to make it worse. Ajimobi went ahead to install 21 high Chiefs as Kings instead and this further deepened the Crisis in the Palace.
This move was however nullified by a court ruling. The seat of the Olubadan is a highly respected seat in Ibadan and widely loved. All efforts to stop Ajimobi from disrespecting the traditional stool proved abortive as he showed himself to be a “constituted authority”. The dislike for him significantly grew in Oyo State as a result.
The Olubadan however expressed sadness over Ajimobi’s death in a recently released letter.
Demolition of Ayefele’s Radio station.
Popular Gospel Musician, Yinka Ayefele’s Radio Station was demolished by Ajimobi during his years in power. Yinka Ayefele is a physically challenged gospel musician in Nigeria who has been able to use his musical talent to build organizations which employs other individuals.
Ayefele allegedly got into trouble with Ajimobi for singing for an opposition politician in the state which did not go well with Ajimobi
Following the demolition of the Radio station, dislike and sentiments grew against Ajimobi, not only in Ibadan but across Nigeria as many Nigerians felt the pain of the musician. The issue was however settled and the governor claimed he would be  compensated.
Stand off with LAUTECH students.
The students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) had their school shut down for months due to funding and financial issues experienced by the University.
The students went ahead to protest the prolonged shut down of their school, an effort to get the government’s attention. When Ajimobi decided to address the disgruntled students, he did so in a condescending manner with undertone of threats. This incident earned him the nickname “constituted authority”.
While addressing the students, Ajimobi did more to threaten them and less to placate them. It was as though he was itching to exercise his constitutional powers over them.
Some of the evidences that he ran out of favor with the people of Oyo State was his party’s inability to win the last governorship election in Oyo State.
All Progressives Congress (APC) lost to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and even Ajimobi lost his bid to become the Senator of Oyo South to Dr kola, a victory he contested in court but lost still. REST IN PEACE AJIMOBI
